Blansko

Blansko On the wooded basalt hill some 6 kilometres north of Usti nad Labem is the remains of Castle Blansko which can be approached via the romantic wooden Ryjice valley. It was constructed for the Vartenberk family of Decin in the 14th century and in 1401 it was recorded as Blankenstein. Emperor Sigmund stayed here until the battle of Na Behani on 16th June 1426. The day after the Victory by the Hussites, Jan of Vartenberk became a Hussite too. As a new Hussite he returned and when his friends opened the castle gates, he entered and without hesitation killed them all!

At the end of the 16th century, the family seat was transferred to Krasne Brezno and the castle was then used as a prison. After the Thirty years war it has gone to ruin. Today there can be seen the remains only of the small palace and tower.
